Boise Cascade Engineered Wood: What Quality Control Looks Like After 5 Years

Their I-joists are also a popular floor system option—lighter than traditional lumber with consistent performance.

I'd recommend not using their standard-grade plywood for subflooring in a modular home if there's any risk of moisture during construction. Upgrade to their Exposure 1 rated plywood or OSB instead. It costs a bit more, but the moisture resistance is worth it. On a 2,000-square-foot home, the upgrade might add $200-400. That's cheap insurance against a potential floor system failure.

For a single sheet of plywood, the difference between Boise Cascade and another brand is negligible—and you might get better customer service from a smaller supplier.

But if you're building a deck that will hold a hot tub or a shed that needs to last 15 years, their OSB is a perfectly solid choice. Just make sure to use pressure-treated lumber for the frame and proper fasteners—that's where most DIY projects fail, not the sheathing.

I've heard Boise Cascade is more expensive than some competitors. Is that true?

But here's the catch: you need to ask for them. If you call the general order line, you'll get a standard rep who may not know the nuances of your project. If you call the distribution center directly and ask for the commercial accounts team, you'll get someone who can actually help.
