Trusted by Contractors Across North America

★★★★★

"We switched our standard floor system spec to BCI Joists three years ago. The dimensional consistency has cut our framing labor time by about 12% — the plumbers and electricians love the knockouts too."

Common Questions

Frequently Asked by Builders & Engineers

Ask Our Engineers

BCI Joists are available in depths from 9½" to 20" and can span up to 30+ feet depending on load conditions and joist depth. Our online BC Framer® design software can generate span tables specific to your floor loading scenario, or our technical team can provide engineering-assist calculations for complex layouts.

Yes. Boise Cascade holds FSC Chain of Custody certification (Certificate #: BC-COC-XXXXX, issued by SCS Global Services). Over 95% of our fiber procurement comes from certified sustainable forests. We provide chain-of-custody invoicing and FSC claim letters for LEED MR credit documentation — contact your sales representative to request these alongside your order.

VERSA-LAM® LVL (Laminated Veneer Lumber) is manufactured by stacking and bonding thin veneer sheets — it offers excellent bending stiffness and is the standard choice for headers, beams, and columns in most residential applications. VERSA-LAM® PSL (Parallel Strand Lumber) uses larger wood strands and achieves higher allowable design values, making it better suited for exposed architectural elements, heavy-load columns, and applications where appearance grade matters. PSL is also dimensionally stable when exposed to humidity variations during construction.

Yes. Our Building Products technical team offers free design-assist services for qualifying projects. This includes span table interpretation, product selection, and preliminary engineering layouts using BC Framer® software. For complex commercial projects, our structural engineers can provide stamped drawings as a billable service — ask your Boise Cascade sales contact for details.

Engineered wood products are designed for dry service conditions (moisture content ≤ 19%). Prolonged exposure to standing water or sustained high humidity can cause delamination, dimensional instability, and reduced structural capacity. For applications with potential moisture exposure — such as uncovered framing during long construction periods — we recommend protective wrapping and prompt sheathing installation. BCI Joists should not be used in exterior conditions without appropriate waterproofing. Consult our technical guide "EWP Installation in High-Humidity Climates" for region-specific recommendations.
